Troy softball features many great players, but one reliable presence at the plate for the Trojans this season has been junior Makaley Boswell. Recently, she was named the No. 15 third baseman in the nation by Softball America. But what leads her to this success?

A Wiregrass native, Boswell has played softball since she was five, and her family has supported her every step of the way.

“I am a huge family person,” Boswell said. “I am really close to my two younger sisters, my grandparents are awesome and knowing they are there if I need to go home, it is really comforting.

“Also, being able to live out my dreams being this close to my family has been a huge part, I think, of my success as well and my comfort in this sport."

Boswell has found success often this season, batting .413 with 33 RBIs and six home runs. The third baseman also had a streak of getting on base in 30 consecutive games, but her family is not the only thing she credits for her success at the plate.

"I feel like just going up to bat knowing that it is God's plan, and I can put it all in His hands, helps,” Boswell said. “No amount of pressure can ever amount to the peace that I have from Him, and I really love it."

A fan favorite for her terrific play this season, head coach Eric Newell said it is even easier to like Boswell when you get to know her.

“She just has one of those personalities that people are attracted to,” Newell said. “It is easy to like her because she is good, but it becomes even easier to like her when you get to know her.

“I think about my own family with my wife and daughters, and they are like ‘Boswell is our favorite player.’”

Coach Newell said he would describe Boswell as a five-tool player, meaning she has contact, power, speed, fielding and throwing skills, and that she is a true student of the game.

“We often watch film, and I look over, and she is taking notes like she is in history class,” Newell said. “It tells me just how much it means to her.

“You will hear it oftentimes, coaches will talk about when your best player is your hardest worker, you are in really good shape.

Offensively, and even perhaps I say defensively, she is, if not our best, one of our best, and she brings it every single day.”

With a smile on her face and a bat in her hands, Boswell is ready to lead the Trojans into a hopeful postseason run.
