In recent weeks, Troy women’s tennis has had some success and part of it has come from Leena Metwally.Â
A junior from Cairo, Egypt, Metwally stands at 5-1 in overall play and 3-0 in singles play.
She has defeated opponents with an average set score of 5.7-2.4 so far in 2026.Â
Metwally has vastly improved compared to the fall 2025 season. She’s already matched the amount of doubles wins she had in the fall and is just two singles wins away from matching the wins she had in the fall.Â
Her doubles partner, Harding transfer Alexia Zarate, and Metwally have dominated on the court with a record of 2-1 in the spring. Their lone loss came against North Florida’s May Fadida and Aryana Bartlett, however, Metwally was able to beat Fadida in singles play.Â
Metwally’s success is not new for her. Her sophomore year, she held a 6-2 record in the fall and a 11-7 record in the spring. Â
Spring 2024 has been her best to date, with an impressive record of 16-4 in singles and 13-6 in doubles, including finishing 5-0 in her last five completed singles matches and 7-1 in her last eight completed singles matches with then-partner Hagar Ramadan-Amin.Â
Prior to her arriving at Troy, Metwally was ranked No. 395 in the International Tennis Federation Juniors and was named to the Arab and North Africa Championship teams. She would also claim 3 ITF titles.Â
Metwally’s next action will be Saturday against Alabama A&M at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.Â
