Troy University’s School of Social Work and Human Services plans to present a Kickball Tournament on March 29. The kickoff will be at 10 a.m. at the intramural fields and will last until the bracket-based play is complete.
The proceeds of this tournament will benefit the House of Hope and Restoration in Brundidge, Alabama.
The House of Hope and Restoration is a recovery home for women.
Recently, the owner of this organization posted about their struggles with financial needs.
“Miss Mary is in my church family,” said Maggie Chapman, the student organizer of the event and a senior social work major from Chelsea, Alabama. “I saw the post and knew I had connections, so if I could provide the resources, I might as well and hope for the best.”
The top playing teams of the tournament will receive prizes. Concessions will also be available to everyone at the event. For those who want to help but do not want to participate, there will be a donation table where all monetary donations will go to the House of Hope and Restoration.
“I know a lot of organizations require a lot of service hours so this would be a perfect opportunity for that,” Chapman said. “Sure, it’s just a kickball tournament, but you’re also helping women in need.”
This tournament is open to the public, so students and other community members can take part. People can choose to participate or watch from the bleachers.
For those who want to participate, they will need to register ahead of time. To register a team, QR codes are posted on the event flyers around campus. The link to the team registration page is https://www.eventbrite.com/e/troy swhs kickball-tournament tickets-1143295691189?aff-oddtdtcreator.
Teams are made up of eight to 10 people. The student fee for a team is $80, making it less than $10 a person. Teams from the community are $100, but that is still around $10 a person.
“Just know that you’re helping a local organization and helping to build a bridge between the gap,” Chapman said.
