Troy University’s online graphic design program was ranked first in the nation by Forbes Advisor.
The program was ranked the highest out of Forbes Education top 10 nonprofit and accredited universities. The ranking was based on affordability, student experiences, credibility, student outcomes and the application process.
“We’re extremely proud of this achievement and are especially thankful for our Admissions and Student Services team who work very closely with each individual student to ensure great personalized attention is given during their academic journey,” said Greg Skaggs, chair of the department of art and design.
“Our curriculum is intentionally modeled after the design industry, and we offer a variety of courses that are intended to assist students to transition smoothly into a competitive field.
“These are supported by a strong core of foundational courses rooted in traditional design principles. Thus far, results have been exceptional.”
Graphic design was first offered as an online degree program in 2022. Since the start of this program, students have been given the flexibility and freedom to work remotely at times convenient to their lifestyle from any location..
It is a completely asynchronous program. Faculty areavailable to use Microsoft Teams to host live sessions to engage with students and assist during scheduled office hours.
“Our faculty are composed of award-winning, industry-experts who have been helping define the design field for decades and have made significant contributions in their own respect,” said Chris Stagl, assistant chair of art and design and associate professor of graphic design. “Our students’ successes can be seen in their outstanding portfolios, accolades and job opportunities.
“While we are still a young program online, we’re positioned to make a significant impact globally with our incredible faculty, curriculum, and design students.”
The program’s essence consists of 41 credits while including studies in typography, user interface, motion graphics, process, concept and the business of art and design.
Students must complete a client-focused design studio course and a thesis exhibition showcasing their original work and research.
