Troy men’s golf wins first event of the year at Argent Financial Classic

The Troy men’s golf team lifted a trophy for the first time since March 29, 2023 at the Argent Financial Classic. The Trojans were one of two teams to finish under par and they finished three strokes ahead of second-place Houston.

The second day of the tournament was pivotal for the Trojans. Troy scored a tournament-high eight under par to move into the lead from fifth place. The Trojans went in to the third day tied for first place with Houston at seven under par and Troy’s even round was enough to outlast the Cougars after they shot three over par.

Nick Fowlkes had an incredible individual performance to start the season. The senior from Stevenson Ranch, California finished second individually with a score of eight under par.

Fowlkes finished all three rounds in the red and his six under round was one of the biggest reasons for Troy’s success on the second day of the tournament.

Jason Quinlan added another top-10 finish to his resume in his first tournament since May 19, 2022. The senior from Cumming, Georgia finished one under par and tied for tenth place. Quinlan redshirted last season but was crucial to Troy’s last win in 2022 where he placed fifth individually with a score of five under par.

The Trojans will be traveling to Birmingham, Alabama to participate in the Graeme McDowell Invitational from Sunday, September 22 through Tuesday, September 24.
