The Troy football team was unable to stop the run game of Georgia Southern in its final home game of the season, falling to their conference foe 45-10 on Saturday, Nov. 14.

After scoring the first 10 points of the game, the Trojans (3-7, 2-4 Sun Belt) gave up 45 unanswered points to the Eagles on Troy’s senior day.

Following a field goal from senior kicker Jed Solomon, the Trojan defense scored its third defensive touchdown in two games when junior safety Demetrius Cain recovered a Georgia Southern fumble and returned it 19 yards for the touchdown.

The Eagles came roaring back, however, sticking to its typical, run-heavy offensive scheme. Georgia Southern’s trio of ball carriers, junior quarterback Kevin Ellison, sophomore running back L.A. Ramsby, and junior running back Matt Breida, all contributed the Eagles’ 325 yards on the ground against Troy’s defense.

In addition to 77 yards rushing on 12 carries, Ellison also completed to two of four passes for 58 yards and one touchdown.

Sophomore Brandon Silvers and the Trojan offense struggled against Georgia Southern’s secondary, as he went only 12-for-25 for 134 yards and an interception. In total, Troy’s offense tallied only 212 yards.

Troy will go on the road for its final two games of the season, starting with a trip to Georgia State on Friday, Nov. 27. Kickoff is yet to be announced.
