Fair coming to Troy

The 69th annual Pike County Fair will return to the Troy Fairgrounds beginning Sept 30th. The fair will feature many different activities ranging from rides to crafts.

“This year we have the same promoter, ‘Modern Midway’, who was a great hit with everyone last year,” Homer Homann, president of the Troy Shrine Club, said in a press release. “This year there will be a larger midway and some new, bigger and better rides.”

The entry fee is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 to 11. Armbands, which allow fairgoers to ride all rides for one night, are $20.

This year, the fair promoter is offering a new, pre-sale deal on armbands. Unlike regular armbands, these armbands can be used to ride all rides for every night of the fair.

Pre-sale armbands are $15, which will save fairgoers $5, and will be available for purchase at various businesses around Troy starting Sept 15th. The last day to purchase an armband is Sept 29th.

“This is a County Fair and with that is something for everyone,” Homann said in a press release. “We have displays of crafts, paintings, baked and canned goods, etc. We also have a great cattle barn and each year we look forward to having a great selection of animals.” Some of these animals include cattle, horses, mules, pigs, rabbits and poultry.

Live music and entertainment will be found in the pavilion each night. Some of the acts include the She Bang Cloggers, the Ryan Alan Project and the Alcazar Shrine Band, among others.

Dillon Davis, a senior math education major from Elba, Alabama, says that he enjoys the Pike County fair and is looking forward to the event this year.

“I went to fair last year,” Davis said. “It was a ton of fun. It has a great atmosphere and it gives you plenty to do. I went, I think, three separate times last time around. I can’t wait to go again.”

Doors open each night at 6 p.m. The fair will end Oct4th.

“I’m asking you all to put these dates of Sept 30th through Oct 4th on your calendar,” Homann said. “Come out and join us at Pike County fair. It’s a good time for all ages.”
