This Week’s Advice: Healthy habits.
Since being in college, so much has happened both mentally and socially.
Coming to college can be such a culture shock.
From moving away, to meeting new people and doing new things.
It can be rough adjusting and taking in these new experiences.
So far, I have fallen and gotten back up about a million times. Every week brings something new to brush off but, that’s all you have to do. Brush off the bad, and bathe in the good.
Recently, I had to let go of a person I was struggling with. I liked the rush they gave me whenever I would see them message me; I was addicted to the dopamine my brain got from their pushing and pulling.
I have been so used to this; I kept falling into the same situations because I wasn’t ready to brush off the bad.
Somehow, I trained myself to be happy in the bad. I was addicted to the hit of dopamine.
I wasn’t ready to accept anything new because I was so used to what I kept falling into.
To be honest, it wasn’t until yesterday I made the change to do better. I realized what I was doing wasn’t going to get me anywhere. I was gluing myself to the ground and asking why I couldn’t move.
These situations consume my mind, and I fall behind on everything important. This wasn’t and isn’t okay. I had to snap myself out of it before I got in too deep.
I know it’s going to hurt, and it has, but I need to do better for myself.
All of this to say, I hope this is relatable. We as people fall into habits, and sometimes these habits are toxic and harmful. It’s our job to recognize this and want to be better for ourselves.
This doesn’t just have to apply to a person; this can also apply to situations, places, and just about anything.
The first step is to get up and brush off the toxicity.
If you don’t brush it off, you can’t bathe in the good. It’s up to you to open a window and break these cycles of toxicity.
We all deserve more than that.
Therefore, try to bask in what you deserve. Don’t give energy to things that consume you. You are worth more than giving more than you get.
Make healthy habits, don’t make the bad into a routine a
nd, always remember that everything will work itself out.
