Emma's Enlightenments
This Week’s Advice: Save Yourself First.
This week has been hard for me. For a moment, I wasn’t sure what to write about. How can I give advice when I, myself, am lost?
That’s when I snapped myself back into reality. I have to save myself.
If no one is there, be there.
Sometimes, you have to take your own steps to being okay, which means being alone for a little while.
There won’t be someone there to pick you up every time you fall. You can’t expect to always have another set of hands.
You need to utilize your own first .
I realized this when I kept waiting for someone to come save me. Every day I was hoping the one person, who has proven time and time again that they don’t care, would at least care a little bit.
I wanted them to save me and give me reassurance.
I didn’t realize that I could give myself reassurance. I can love myself before I ask for love from anyone else. How can you let love in, when you can’t even accept your own?
You can’t.
It’s harsh, but picking yourself up is sometimes the only way to get walking.
You can’t crawl everywhere, even though sometimes the ground is more comfortable than standing up.
This advice can apply to a lot of things this week.
It’s the start of the semester, so we are all just now getting back into our routines.
Maybe stress is high, with classes and new changes. Before you ask for help with these things, look at how you can help yourself first.
And, if you’re like me, being lonely is okay. You have to be content with yourself before you let anyone else in.
Loneliness is never forever. What is forever, is you. You can’t magically become someone new and switch yourself completely. You need to see who you are and be happy with that.
Even though it’s hard, looking at yourself, and realizing you are stronger than you think is worth it.
You don’t know your abilities unless you test yourself. You don’t know just how strong you are until you try and pull your body weight.
That’s important to realize when starting these new experiences this semester.
Be happy, be strong, and love who you see when you look at yourself.
