Scott Campbell has won championships coaching all of his children. He’s looking to continue that legacy as an assistant coach on the Troy men’s basketball team.

“All the money in the world couldn’t buy you an opportunity like this,” Campbell said. “It’s something that has to happen organically, and I believe the Lord orchestrated this situation and opened a door I’m excited to jump through.”

After 27 seasons coaching at the high school and preparatory levels, Campbell moved up to the college level when he got the call from Troy head coach Scott Cross this summer.

“This is a dream spot for me,” Campbell said. “I’ve followed coach Cross’ teams and career for probably 15 or 16 years but didn’t know him personally.

“I just really appreciated what he stood for and how he ran his programs. For me to have the chance to join Cross and his staff is really exciting.”

Campbell's sons, Cobi and Cooper Campbell, are both entering their second seasons as Trojans. Although Cobi Campbell redshirted due to injury, Cooper Campbell appeared in all 34 games and averaged 5.2 points per game.

“It’s really humbling [to coach my sons again,]” Scott Campbell said. “The real driving factor to come to Troy was the chance to coach at this level with coach Cross and his staff.

“It’s really unique to get to experience this with my boys, even though in the big picture they’re just here for a few years.”

While coaching Cooper Campbell, Scott Campbell won an Under Armour Rise AAU title. While coaching Cobi Campbell, he led Puyallup High School to a league title and a sixth-place finish in the Washington 4A State Tournament.

“I got the chance to coach both of my sons in high school, and it’s been awesome to see their growth as people and as players last year at Troy,” Scott Campbell said. “They’ve improved in so many ways.”

Although Cobi and Cooper Campbell are at the college level now, the other members of the family are immersed in basketball as well. Scott Campbell’s wife, Brie Campbell, was a McDonald’s All-American in high school and played at Oregon before coaching high school basketball as well. She’ll help the Charles Henderson High School coaching staff.

Scott Campbell’s daughter, Caia Campbell, will transfer to Charles Henderson after propelling PHH Prep to a CAA State Championship last season – she earned CAA State Player of the Year honors for her performance.

Coaching Caia Campbell last year, Scott Campbell secured the Arizona CAA State Coach of the Year. PHH Prep was one of two teams to beat eventual National Champions IMG Academy last year.

Even more than the chance to coach his sons again, Scott Campbell said he’s ready for the challenge of coaching at a new level. He said his experience at the prep level has given him a different perspective on the next level.

“Coaching at college has a lot of the same kids that I was coaching at prep school the last several years, and they’re just a few years older now,” Scott Campbell said. “It’s fun to be a part of seeing their development that way.”

When asked what he wants Troy fans to know about him, Scott Campbell gave a short, sweet answer.

“I love the Lord, my family and Trojan basketball,” Scott Campbell said. “I’m super committed to helping this team be as successful as possible.”
