The local Enterprise Rent-A-Car location of Troy donated $2,000 to the Troy for Troops Foundation on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

The Enterprise Rent-A-Car of Troy applied for a grant on behalf of the Troy for Troops through the Enterprise Holdings Foundation.

Represented by its manager, J.C. Daughtrey, and the area rental manager, Billy Lee, the company has donated similar grants to both the athletic department and the career center in previous years.

“The Enterprise Holdings Foundation is very active, so every quarter we look at organizations that do business with us,” Lee said. “We did a little research and saw this great opportunity to help out Troy University and the troops.”

According to troy.edu, Troy for Troops strives to serve its military-affiliated and veteran students by promoting academic and career success, while “providing a place to study as well as Veterans Affairs counseling, camaraderie, and more.”

While there are no stipulations outlined by the grant on how the money should be used, Danielle Pankey, the Troy for Troops director, hopes to “place some of those funds, if not all of the funds, into our Troy for Troops Scholarship Program, which benefits military members, their spouses, and veterans.”

Troy for Troop scholarships go straight to the students for them to use as they need.

“That $1,000 scholarship goes a long way,” Pankey said. “It might not sound like much, but you never know what situation a veteran is in.”
