Blake Cavill steps into the batter’s box against Texas State.
Starting Friday, the Trojans welcomed the Texas State Bobcats onto Riddle-Pace Field for a three-game series. While the Trojans took two of the three games, the Bobcats made every game a dog fight. They did this by striking first or in bunches in every game.
Although the Bobcats fought with everything they had, Troy had an offensive sparkplug by the name of Blake Cavill. Cavill reached base in every game of the series. In each of the first two games the senior from Sydney, Australia, left the yard – his homer in the seventh marking number five in the month of April.
“Ben [Wolgamot] gives me the green light, and I’m like, ‘alright, perfect,’ and I take it right down the middle,” Cavill said. “I was very worried for myself that Ben was going to yell at me.
“And then, he threw the same pitch again, thankfully, and I put that one very far over the wall.”
His bat continued to be hot in game two as he tagged Texas State for two hits in three at-bats – his 14th multi-hit game of the season. In the second inning, Cavill left the yard for the eighth time this season. His total not only ties Brooks Bryan for the team lead, but also his 2024 total at Western Kentucky.
The homer also marked his sixth homer this month. Game three was quiet for the senior as he drew two walks. By drawing said walks, he was able to extend his on-base streak to 49 games dating back to last season.
His walks played a crucial part in the Trojans continuing their weekend series success. No. 15 Troy and No. 1 Texas are the only teams in the country to win all eleven-weekend series this year.
With 12 games left in the regular season, Cavill and the Trojans look to continue their fight for the top seed heading into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Currently, the Trojans are third in the conference, but they have a shot at the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in the not-so distant future. Before they get there, they have some in-state rivals to take care of.
Every game is crucial, and only five more will be played at Riddle-Pace Field. Cavill and the Trojans will continue their march to postseason play at South Alabama following a midweek tilt against Jacksonville State.
