Las Cruces, N.M. is the home of New Mexico State, a program that is making its return to the Sun Belt. The Aggies made the move from the Big West Conference in 2001 to Sun Belt, where they competed until 2005 before jumping to the Western Athletic Conference, or WAC. Since then the WAC has pretty much fallen apart along with all the other conference movement that has taken place with other teams across the country, New Mexico State is back in the “Belt.” The Aggies have faced Troy only once, back in 2004, when the Trojans fell 22-18 to NMS. New Mexico State’s move to the Sun Belt is football only with all the other sports moving from the WAC to the Big Sky Conference. Last season, the Aggies started with so much promise with a season opener victory over Sacramento State 49-19 but that would be New Mexico State’s first and last win of the season as the team limped to the finish line (1-11). The road doesn’t get any easier for New Mexico State who is slated to play Texas, Minnesota and UCLA in 2013.
