by: Karli Mauldin The joint classes advanced public relations tactics and public relations campaigns taught by Dr. Bridgette Colaco is hosting a Zumba Night next Wednesday Feb. 13 at the Boys and Girls Club in Troy. “We chose them because the community hasn’t recognized the need that is there,” Alicia Clampett said. “This local Boys and Girls Club is a non-profit organization that is not sponsored by the government, and we’d like to help them in any way we can.” Clampett is a senior broadcast journalism major and the leader of the two classes of 21 students. The class is assigned to act as a public relations group for an organization by having fundraisers, making a print public service announcement, a brochure, writing a feature story, making a newsletter, giving a news release, giving a television and radio public service announcement, spreading the word about their class and their goal by social media and hosting a reception with a meeting where they will give a speech complete with a power point and give the money they raised to the organization. The class’ goal is to raise awareness above all for the Boys and Girls Club to help them get funding and the help they need in the future. “We really want to raise at least $250 because that’s the most that this class has raised in the past,” Clampett said. “But we believe that we can raise at least $400 if not more.” The class chose to host a Zumba Night at the Boys and Girls Club so the public will actually get to see the location and the condition of it along with promoting a healthy lifestyle. The classes are at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and they last for one hour each. It will be five dollars to dance but they are accepting donations as well. The Walt’s Gym instructor Dara Bryant will be teaching the classes at the Boys and Girls Club located on North 3 Notch Street.
