Troy women’s tennis has started conference play 2-0 for the first time since 2019 season, following its 4-0 victory over Georgia State. Looking back to their March 15 victory against Alcorn State, the Trojans went 4-0 on the week while building a four-match win streak.

Troy’s win streak is highlighted by their 4-3 victory over Texas State to open conference play. In a match that spanned three-and-a-half hours, the Trojans secured four of six singles victories to defeat the Bobcats. In dramatic fashion, Hiba Heni clinched victory for the Trojans by outlasting Texas State’s Tadiwa Mauchi in a three-set duel, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-3.

To move to 2-0 in Sun Belt play, the Trojans took down a hampered Georgia State team.

This resulted in Troy defeating them 4-0, due to outright victories, forfeits and courts being abandoned. On court one, Maria Guirguis was pushed in her straight set victory over Maria Paredas, 7-6 (5), 7-5.

On the topic of sweeping opponents, the Trojans began their win streak by defeating Alcorn State 7-0, before defeating Nicholls, 4-0. The pinnacle of Troy’s trip to Mississippi was taking every singles court in straight sets. Troy carried this momentum into Louisiana, where it defeated Nicholls in a similar fashion. Leena Metwally had a strong showing against Alcorn State’s Zoe Crimmel who she defeated in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

Against Alcorn State, Valeriia Avdeeva defeated Amelia Tatafu without relenting a single game. She carried this momentum into her straight-set victory against Aada Inna, 6-0, 6-1.

The Trojans are now 8-6 on the season with five conference matches left in the regular season. During this win –streak, Maria Guirguis improved her singles record to 11-0 while Leena Metwally moved to 9-1. The duo of Hiba Heni and Emilia Namyslo has continued to lead the way for the Trojans, improving their record to 6-2.

With five matches left in the regular season, Troy is set to play two of its final three home matches in a weekend tilt. On Saturday, the Trojans are set to welcome the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss, who are 7-6 (1-1) during the season. Sunday’s action pits the Trojans against South Alabama, who enters play boasting a 10-2 record.
