The Troy women’s golf team had a busy spring break, competing in two tournaments over the week. The Trojans finished seventh at the WKU Spring Break Shootout before placing 13th at the Florida State Match-Up.

At the WKU Spring Break Shootout in Dade City, Florida, the Trojans faced competition from around the country. Florida Gulf Coast, Illinois, Stetson, New Mexico State and Nebraska rounded out the top five – Troy finished one spot behind Western Kentucky.

Leading the Trojans was Alyssa Mercado, who finished in 14th place. To end the tournament, she shot +1, logging her best round of the spring. Mercado led the field with a -4 mark on par-5s.

Laura Fangmeyer finished tied for 27th place, leaping up eight spots in the final round with a +3 performance.

Mathilda Ringblom and Katelynn Altese also jumped multiple spots in the last day of action – Ringblom moved up four spots into a tie for 34th place while Altese pushed six spots into a tie for 60th place.

Victoria Sutts finished tied for 40th place. While Sutts finished the WKU Shootout with an +8 round, she led the Trojans at the Florida State Match-Up.

Sutts finished in 31st place at the second event of the week, scoring +12 for the three-day event. Troy played Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Kent State, Missouri and more in the event – the Seminoles destroyed the competition, winning by 42 strokes and beating Troy by 97.

Fangmeyer shot +19, placing second for Troy and 51st overall. She was followed by Mercado, Ringblom and Altese, who finished 62nd, 65th and 70th, respectively.

The Trojans will continue their season in Monroe, Louisiana, next week with a two-day event on Mar. 31 and Apr. 1. The Trojans will preview Sun Belt Conference foe ULM at the ULM Invitational and try to get back on track.
