W Walnut Cookie Co. has partnered with Common Ground to shine light on the bright minds of the youth in Troy and help them prosper.

W Walnut Cookie Co. is a bakery located in the center of downtown Troy. Every month, they debut a new “cookie of the month.” The April cookie of the month, the Bright Future Lemonberry, is a sugar cookie that mixes lightness and brightness to create a sweet lemon and blueberry cookie.

For each Bright Future Lemonberry cookie sold, W Walnut Cookie Co. will give $1 to Common Ground Troy.

“A lot of people like sugar cookies, and we decided to add a lemon flavor,” said Kay Grenon, the owner of W Walnut Cookie Co. “It’s a very light and bright kind of flavor—like the bright future of the children.

“We kind of married those things together like our partnership with Common Ground.”

Common Ground Troy is an organization that dedicates itself to nurturing the youth in the city. They offer mentoring, biblical discipleship, educational programs, after school programs, summer programs and more.

The money raised from the Bright Future Lemonberry cookie will help fund this year’s summer program.

“Part of our mission and vision is to be part of the community,” Grenon said. “It is also a big thing for us to support our young people in this community, especially because we have a son ourselves who is about the same age as they boys who go to Common Ground.”

Grenon said through this partnership, she hopes the youth of the community realize the W Walnut Cookie Co. will always be there to support them.

“We just find that it is really important for them to have good role models. It helps us because they’re going to be our future,” Grenon said. “They are going to be the ones here coming into our store and running our businesses.

“It’s good to give back to them, to show them that we support them, and in turn they can support us and our business.”
