Troy’s University Activities Council (UAC) held its “Letters and Legos” event on March 11 in celebration of Women’s History Month. The event allowed students to show their gratitude through personalized letters and enter a drawing for a chance to win a flower Lego set.
Mallory Morris, a sophomore graphic design major from Hoover, Alabama, said the event highlighted the importance of uplifting women and showing appreciation for their contributions.
“It’s important to have events that recognize women and make them feel appreciated,” Morris said.
Students gathered on the quad to participate in the hands-on activity, as they created personalized letters using a variety of different colored markers and stickers. The event provided a relaxed environment where students could celebrate women through creativity and thoughtful expressions, including writing phrases such as ‘You Rock,’ ‘Thank You,’ ‘You’re Beautiful’ and ‘You’re an immovable force in the world.’
Antonio Blair, a junior business management major from Jamaica, attended the event to show support for the women in his life. Blair explained that participating in the activity allowed him to recognize the impact women have on those around them every day.
“I wanted to support the women who have supported me,” Blair said. “Writing letters and giving winning them a chance to win a prize is a simple way to show appreciation.”
Throughout the event, students were also able to choose a sweet treat from the options of sugar cookies, brownies and cupcakes to enjoy while creating theircards.“I rarely see anyone having events like these around here,” Latoria Clay, a sophomore computer information systems major from Jasper, Alabama. “As someone whose mother is my other half, this event has me very excited.
“Finding celebrations dedicated to women are not always common, so events like this one are especially important.”
The members of UAC delivered the letters shortly after the event.
