Why is Putin coming to Alaska significant in the pursuit for an end to the Russia-Ukraine war? It means there are efforts being made to try to stop this terrible war. It also means the “Peace President” is back doing what he does best: ending wars. It appears that the Russia-Ukraine war is soon to be ended, and all it took was a new president in the White House.
For the first time in nine years, Vladimir Putin came to the United States to engage in peace talks with President Trump to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
Per CBS News, Putin states, “Today, when President Trump said that if he was the President back then, there will be no war, and I can confirm it would quite indeed be sure.” President Trump has been known to end wars as since becoming President in January, he has ended six wars, according to bbc.com. He helped Pakistan and India reach a ceasefire, as well as Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Thailand and Cambodia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Egypt and Ethiopia, as well as Serbia and Kosovo.
Now, it is time for him to end the big war; Russia and Ukraine. During his campaign, he promised to “end the war in 24 hours.” However, during his press conference with Putin, he admitted this has taken longer than he expected.
President Trump has been very adamant about ending the Russia-Ukraine war as he has had multiple meetings at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and now Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump has called for a bi-lateral meeting between Russia, Ukraine and other nations. Ukraine has accepted, but Russia has not yet accepted, per MSNBC. Also, per MSNBC, Putin has stated he will not meet for peace talks with Zelensky unless Trump is present.
This war doesn’t directly have much impact on America, unless one of the two sides retaliates, which is very unlikely. However, if people want global peace, this war needs to end. According to cfr.org, under the Biden Administration, the US sent Ukraine over $360 million worth of aid, which means the United States was funding a war we weren’t even in.
Thankfully, we have President Trump, who is pushing for peace and actively engaging in peace talks with both sides and not funding the war.
