Troy wins first conference match of the season

Troy wins first conference game against Coastal Carolina in rainy thriller
Troy took down Coastal Carolina, 1-0, in a late goal thriller for its first conference win of the season.
Troy capitalized on a corner from Brooke Slater in the 87th minute, after Imani Hamilton was sent off for a challenge. The ball was played in, where it found Alaina Uncapher as she headed it into the back of the net.
Taylor Richards also came up with three huge saves, keeping the Trojans in the match as they took the win. This win is the first Sun Belt win for the Trojans since 2024.
"I thought the girls played really well,” said head coach Jake Wyman. “Obviously some tough weather conditions today, but they hung in there and absorbed a lot of pressure.
‘I thought we defended really well. It was great to come out with a clean sheet.”
Troy and Coastal Carolina came out trading shots early in the match, but no real chances found their way into the net. Richards would record only one save in the first half, while Coastal’s keeper saw no shots in the first half.
Hamilton changed that in the second half after ripping a shot from off of a short corner. The ball glided towards the net but just miss the top right of the goal. Troy took five more shots, but Coastal found its own pressure and took 10 shots of its own.
In the 84th minute, Hamilton received her red card, the third one of this season for the Trojans, and forced Troy to play with only 10 players. Despite the odds, Troy kept up the pressure by making three attempts on goal, including the winning header from Uncapher.
Coastal tried to equalize in the 88th minute, but Richards came up big with a major save. Then, a rebound shot would come off a Trojan defender to give Troy the 1-0 win.
“Great goal at the end from Alaina Uncapher and huge save at the end from Talor Richards,” Wyman said. “I thought it was fully deserved, and I'm really proud of the girls’ efforts.
“They haven't quit on us and have kept going. They've put in some good performances and it's finally starting to pay off."
Troy’s win back in 2024 was also against Coastal Carolina, where Troy won 1-0 as well. The Trojans will be back in action at the Trojan Soccer Complex to take on Louisiana Tech at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Then, the Trojans will hit the road for their away match against Southern Miss on Sunday.
