Troy’s soccer season came to an end after a 3-0 loss to Appalachian State on Sunday afternoon in Boone, North Carolina, at the Appalachian Soccer Stadium.

The Trojans needed a win to solidify their spot in the postseason. Unfortunately, the Trojans struggled throughout the match, taking no shots. Taylor Richards, however, had her highest recorded number of saves during the game, stopping 10 goal-scoring opportunities and another penalty kick.

"We were miles off today,” said head coach Jake Wyman. “We didn't really give ourselves a chance; credit to App State.

“They dominated in all phases.”

App State kicked off the game with a goal in the 18th minute. App State's Reagan Sturgill let one rip, bouncing off the left post and bouncing out. Sofia Goclowski ran in after the bounce and tapped it in to put App State up by one.

In the 21st minute, Ellie Garrison doubled the lead, scoring from the right side of the box and putting up her 11th goal of the season. The Mountaineers nearly tripled their advantage, but Richards came up with her third penalty kick save of the season.

The score remained 2-0 going into halftime.

App State continued dominating in the second half, with Troy struggling defensively to stop it. Without the Trojans being able to produce anything on offense, the Mountaineers continued to pressure the defense and put another goal up in the 67th minute with a strike that Richards could not get to.

Troy would lose the game 3-0 and finish out their regular season 4-7-1.

“The girls have given everything for the program, and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead this group,” Wyman said. “I am proud of the progress we've made, especially within the Sun Belt.

“Our staff and the players deserve a lot of credit for their efforts this season. Rebuilding doesn't always happen overnight, and we will look to build on the foundation we've laid this year."

Wyman's first season as Troy’s head coach put the Trojans at 11 points in conference, the highest amount of points the team has had since the 2021 season.
