Three Sorrell College of Business professors are teaming up with Regions Bank to provide new financial literacy resources to Troy University’s student body.
Dr. Lane Boyte Chadwick, professor of economics; Dr. Anand Krishnamoorthy, professor of finance; and Dr. Dewey Todd, professor and assistant dean of the Dothan campus are the three working toward the goal of improving students’ knowledge about finances and keeping them in the know.
The resources will be specifically created based on student survey responses. They are aiming for 1,000 responses to their survey from all campuses.
Chadwick told the Tropolitan that she and her two fellow professors are a team and chose to respond to interview questions as such.
“Too often, financial education is delivered in a one-size-fits-all way,” said the team of professors. “This survey allows students to tell us where they actually feel uncertain, whether that’s understanding credit scores, managing student loans, simply building a budget or tax questions.”
According to the professors, financial literacy is the ability to understand and manage money effectively, which is especially important for college students making their first independent financial decisions. These decisions can impact long-term financial stability.
“Many students are navigating rising costs such as tuition, housing and everyday expenses, while also managing work, student loans and limited income,” the team said. “We also see challenges around credit use, understanding interest and building savings.”
Furthermore, they are looking at students’ confidence levels, ensuring they feel equipped to apply the knowledge they already possess.
This program is the first time Regions Bank has partnered directly with a higher education institution.
“We are excited to have such a strong partner helping us curate resources for our students,” the professors said. “This initiative is not limited to one college or major; we want every Troy Trojan to participate so we can build resources that truly reflect and support the needs of our entire student body.”
“This initiative is rooted in a simple idea: listen first, then act,” the professors said. “We’re excited to partner with industry and bring practical, real-world financial education to our students in a way that is relevant, accessible and impactful.”
“Through our partnership with Regions Bank and their Next Step program, we can tailor workshops, webinars and digital resources specifically to the needs our students identify,” they said.
Dr. Chadwick, Dr. Krishnamoorthy and Dr. Todd are collecting survey data throughout the month of April and aim to have financial literacy resources available for students by Fall 2026.
