The Troy Lifting Club held their very first mock lifting meet at the Trojan Fitness Center on Saturday.

The Troy Lifting Club has been looking forward to and working to plan the mock meet since the club’s inception in the spring semester.

“It's an amazing feeling to see it all come together,” said President and Treasurer of the Troy Lifting Club Davis Humphrey, a social science-psychology graduate student from Helena, Alabama. “Everyone did a great job.

“I'm super happy. Everyone played a part in it today, and I think it's a big success and a big step in the right direction for the club.”

Friends, family and club members came to cheer on the seven participants as they competed in three events: squat, bench and deadlift.

The energy at the beginning of the meet was calm and quiet as the crowd waited with bated breath to see each lifter succeed. By the end of the meet, every onlooker was cheering and yelling as lifters pushed through to break personal records.

Brock Humphrey, a sophomore criminal justice major from Helena, Alabama, shocked the crowd when he squatted 605 pounds, deadlifted 600 pounds and benched 375 pounds. Despite this being his first competition, Humphrey won the overall best lifter for the mock meet.

Humphrey said his favorite moment from the meet was “pulling 600.”

“Going into it, I didn’t feel confident,” Humphrey said. “I was in my head, but I shut the voices out.

“I did what I could.”

Amelia Fronckowiak, a junior exercise physiology major from Madison, Alabama, also said it was her first meet. Fronckowiak originally came to the meet just to support as a club member but decided to compete after the others encouraged her to give it a try.

“I loved the encouraging environment and how everyone was willing to take part in it,” said Fronckowiak. “It was super fun.”

The Troy Lifting Club said their first mock meet was a big success, and they are looking forward to holding another one in the spring. The club will also be attending a joint practice with Mississippi State and UAB in Birmingham, Alabama, on Oct. 31.

The club will also be sending members to compete in local and national competitions. Kacey Morgan, a sophomore exercise physiology major from Troy, Alabama, will be competing in a Powerlifting America meet in Philadelphia this month.

“I'd say thank you to everyone who came out and supported, and thank you to the rec for letting us have this Saturday and coordinating with them,” Davis Humphrey said. “Just a big thank you to everybody involved.”
