Marketing department opens new opportunity for hands-on experience

The Troy Athletics Department is currently looking for marketing interns for the upcoming season.

The department is in search of undergraduate or graduate students of all majors to join the team this year. Interns will help with game day operations, promotions and the overall fan experience at Troy games as well as events and will earn hands-on experience that can help with future jobs.

“The expectations so far have simply been to show up and learn,” said Jayden Sigur, a sophomore sports management major from Covington, Georgia, who currently interns with athletics marketing. “There are many different ways to help fans be entertained during a sporting event, as well as through promotions and events leading up to those sporting events.”

Interns can gain experience in marketing, branding, fan experience, game promotions and game production during the season throughout multiple games. Interns will also help with social media and fan engagement during games.

Interns don’t need previous experience in athletics or marketing. Initially, Sigur worked with football recruiting but switched to marketing as it better fit his passion and daily schedule.

“I chose to switch to the marketing internship for the experience in the specific sports field I want to pursue,” Sigur said. “The flexibility and versatility of the different things you can learn in marketing gets me very excited.”

For students who want to become an intern, Sigur says the opportunities Troy offers allow for students to pick their specific interest beyond just marketing, and the experience will be helpful for a future career.

“I think all students should be actively looking for hands-on opportunities in their specific fields of study,” Sigur said. “For students wanting to work in sports, I personally think it is important to gain experience and work towards the positions you want professionally.

“I think opportunities, like these offered by Troy, are no-brainers.”

According to Sigur, the hiring process is easy and quick.

“The hiring process for this internship was very simple,” Sigur said. “I emailed the department showing my interest and was immediately contacted to schedule an interview.

“The interview was over the phone and lasted about 30 minutes. After around three days, I was contacted and told that I had gotten the internship.”

Anyone who is interested in becoming a marketing intern can email Trent Edwards at edwardst@troy.edu.
