Nelson Phillips recorded a 23-point performance against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. He was on fire from range, knocking down five 3-pointers with two of them coming in the final minutes of the game. He would go on to score 10 straight points, including those two 3-pointers, allowing the Trojans to pull away with a 62-52 lead.

This is not the first time Phillips would lead a comeback for the Trojans. The Trojans played South Alabama a few nights before and were down heading into the final minutes of the game. Nelson would drop 10 points within those final minutes to help pull off the comeback.

He was a pest on the defensive end of the court, recording six of Troy’s nine steals against a team that is known for its offensive prowess. His six steals are the most by a Trojan within a single game since his NCAA record-tying 13 steals against SUNO earlier this season. He also added seven rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot on the night.

Phillips is a senior transfer from Georgia State, where he played from 2018-2022 apart from the 2020-2021 season due to an injury that sidelined him. He recorded 11 starts with 22 games played in his final season with the Panthers before transferring to the Trojans.

He is currently shooting career lows from the field and from range; however, he has recorded the career highs at the free throw line and in shot attempts, shot makes and 3-point attempts. He has also recorded career highs in total rebounding, offensive and defensive rebounding, assists, steals and points.
