Trojans find new homes, sisters during Bid Day

As Trojans rushed across the intersection of Veterans Memorial Drive and Elm Street onto Sorority Hill for Bid Day last Saturday, they marked their very first moments as newly pledged sorority sisters.

On a sunny morning full of excitement, memories and sisterhood, sorority members joined hands, donned their colors and threw what they knew with their new sisters for the first time.

One of those sisters, dressed in emerald green and pearls, was Bethany Teague, a new Kappa Delta sister and freshman nursing major from Dothan, Alabama.

“I came in not knowing much about rush [but] I’m very glad that I did it,” Teague said. “I’ve met so many people, even in my Pi Chi group. I’m happy I’m here and now I’m a pearl girl!”

For Kappa Delta Sister and one of this year’s Pi Chi Leaders Ellie Williams, a junior nursing major from Dothan, Alabama, bringing these new sisters into their homes made for a one-of-a-kind experience.

“I got to lead all these freshmen who are coming in, and it was such a magical experience to get to run home with them,” Williams said. “Everyone is so happy to be here. I think it’s going to be an awesome day.”

Wearing a bright red and white Chi Omega hat on Sorority Hill for the first time, Savana Etris, a freshman elementary education major from Opelika, Alabama, said running Sorority Hill to her new home was so exciting.

“It's been so much fun, I’ve been wanting to run home to Chi Omega all week,” Etris said. “I’ve been dreaming about this.

“I walked into Chi O and immediately it felt like home. I knew that everybody in there could be my best friend.”

Savana’s parents Michelle and Kelly Etris believe the sisterhood of Chi Omega will be very good for her during her time as a Trojan.

“She’s been looking forward to this since she was still in high school,” Michelle said. “This is her dream sorority, and we couldn’t have asked for a better recruitment experience.

“She wanted to have a house that felt like true home, and she talked about that a lot – how she wanted to find a place where she really saw sisterhood and this was it for her. We’re excited to watch her find herself here at her home.”

Regardless of which house they ran toward, the signs they threw or the colors they wore; each sister found a new home and family for themselves in their sorority.
