Smith, family, and friends join in for the cutting of the ribbon

To celebrate the expansion of Trojan Threads Apparel Co.’s retail location, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on August 8. Many friends and family from the community came together to show their support for the business while also viewing what new and returning merchandise was made available for purchase.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was put together by the retail shop and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.

“It’s so exciting to now have a one-stop shop for current students, alums and future Trojans,” said President of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce Bethany Allen. “There is anything and everything that you can imagine here.

“It's the perfect time for their expansion with the start of school, all the new Troy students and with the start of football season. So, I know that the business will only continue to grow.”

While the location is still on University Ave., Trojan Threads now resides in the space directly next to its original location. The space used to house an escape room.

This spot upgraded Trojan Threads’ retail square footage from 1,500 to over 2,500-square feet, allowing more space for new products to be displayed.

“It's very rewarding,” said David Smith, owner of Trojans Threads. “Being able to revise the products that we can to the community and to the Troy students, that is number one for me.

“When I was a Troy student, there wasn't any other place to get Troy products other than the bookstore. So, we wanted to make sure that we provide quality products, fast shipping, great customer service and great pricing.”

A few of Trojan Threads’ new and updated merchandise include women’s apparel, youth and toddler items, as well as a wider variety of polo sizes.

David Smith thanks everyone for attending the ribbon cutting

“School spirit at Troy brings us together,” said Jared Rueda, a junior interdisciplinary studies major from Athens, Alabama. “It's how we show pride in our campus and be part of something bigger than ourselves.

“When we wear the colors, we’re carrying the Trojan tradition forward and reminding each other that we’re all part of the same family, no matter where we come from. It builds unity, pride and energy that make Troy feel like home.”

Many appreciate the variety of merchandise Trojan Threads offers.

“It's great that they offer a variety of styles and all different colors because everybody has different tastes,” Allen said. “I think everything they're doing here is great, and it couldn't have a better location.

“It says a lot about the business, both the product and the service that they've grown so much in just two years. And as a Troy alum, I'm just glad to come support this one-stop shop.”

The former location will now be used for production and storage.

Trojan Threads is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, during football games, it'll be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. To shop online, visit trojanthreads.com.

“We are the No. 1 Trojan licensed apparel retailer for the 3rd and 4th quarter,” Smith said. “We want to make sure, even with the economy, that people can afford these products, and I think that's what it's all about.”
