Trojan Ambassadors announced the opening of applications for students wanting to be the next Trojan Ambassadors. This program offers current students the chance to show the school they love to potential new students.
“The responsibilities of an ambassador are to represent the school and give tours to incoming freshmen, transfer students or anyone interested in coming to school at Troy,” said Laney Kelley, a senior Trojan Ambassador and interdisciplinary studies major from DeFuniak Springs, Florida. “Students must work Trojan Days in the fall and the spring [as well as] the spring commencement, which are all mandatory.
“However, there are daily tours, group tours and weekend tours you can sign up for.”
Trojan Days are when future Trojans visit the campus and learn more about the school, from scholarships and admissions to meeting with advisors. While it is a fun time for the potential new students, some Trojan Ambassadors say they have just as much fun.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Trojan Ambassador, considering it's my first year with this title,” said Giavanni Fuller, a junior communications major from Buffalo, New York. “I have been able to connect with so many different people on and off campus and have even gotten to give a tour to my cousin who will be attending next fall.
“I truly believe this has been such a rewarding experience so far.”
While the experience is rewarding, the position does come with some challenges. Trojan Ambassadors volunteer to show people around Troy’s campus, but time management can be challenging.
“The only difficulty I have faced is time management,” Fuller said. “Like any other organization, you only gain as much as you give to it, and I wish I could devote a little more time to it because of that.
“I would consider really analyzing the availability that you can offer next year before considering applying because it is a demanding position.”
Only a select number of people can be a Trojan Ambassador, but applying to be one has never been easier.
Applications can be found in the Trojan Ambassador’s Instagram bio at @trojanambassadors, and those interested in applying must attend at least one interest meeting to be eligible. Those interest meetings are on March 8 and March 9, both at 3 p.m. in the admissions office.
