The Troy track and field team ran past everyone in its way at the Doc Anderson Invitational. The Trojans felt right at home, taking 14 first-place finishes as a school record was broken.
Aaliyah Murphy secured a first-place finish and a school record in the 400m hurdles, finishing with a time of 59.94s. Murphy – a true freshman – became the first Trojan this century to finish the event in under a minute, narrowly beating a 1988 record of 59.98s.
As part of the 4x100m relay, Murphy took another first place finish alongside Jasmine Jimenez, Catherine Forbes and Shanyah Washington.
Washington won the 100m sprint as well, clocking in at 11.20s. She also won the 200m on day one.
Haley Wilson recorded a personal best of 56.91s to win the women’s 400m dash.
On the men’s side, the quartet of Tydreke Thomas, Evan Brown, Keylan Hicks and Michael Eady took first place with a time of 45.80s. Mario Tullis won the men’s 800m with a time of 1:56.11s.
The Trojans swept both the 5,000m and shot put events on the men’s and women’s sides – Keith Warner and Makenna Calbert won the 5K while Joy Edward and Altwayne Bedward both took first in the shot put.
Edward also won the women’s hammer throw, launching a personal best 52.57m throw to take first place. She went back-and-forth with teammate Abby Grosinske for first place but ultimately beat out her fellow Trojan.
In the men’s hammer throw, Morgan Reese won with a 58.77m heave. Shanara Richards won the women’s discus with a 43.06m throw.
Alejandra Gutierrez Fuente logged a season best 12.28m triple jump to take the crown in that event.
Kady Schwietz won the women’s heptathlon, crushing the competition. Schwietz took first in five out of the seven events.
The Trojans travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, over the weekend to take on SEC competition at the Crimson Tide Classic. It’s the first of three tough meets for the Trojans before the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships at the start of May.
