Track and field shines facing top competition in Atlanta

Troy track and field visited Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The meet held a number of schools in the surrounding area, including Georgia Southern, Kennesaw State and Alabama State. The Trojans also competed against schools from across the country, like Brown and UMass.
The Trojans competed against over 100 people in some events and still had numerous top-10 and top-five finishes throughout the meet.
On the women's side of the track, Rachel Whyte, Jasmine Jimenez, Aaliyah Murphy and Shanyah Washington earned fourth place in the 4x100m with a time of 45.44.
Shanayah Washington went on to finish second during the women’s 100m event, blazing in with a time of 11.54. Faith Jones won fourth place on the hurdles side of the 100m with a time of 13.52.
Aaliyah Murphy went on to grab fourth during the 400m hurdles , running a 59.39. To round it off, in the 200m , Rachel Whyte grabbed seventh with a time of 24.05.
On the men’s side, Travis Massey, Michael Eady, Jared Jones and Milos Nisic raced to a third-place finish with a time of 40.37 in the 4x100m . Ethan Forbes grabbed fourth in the 800m with a time of 1:50.54.
On the field, The Trojans grabbed some top placements in javelin. Carlee Craft threw the javelin 42.57m to earn fifth place, while Tyler McKinnell threw it 57.95m to earn sixth place on the men’s side.
Tayjo Oppong threw not only a personal best score of 52.37m during the men’s discus throw but also won first place in the process.
Finally, Kavon Hill leaped into fourth place in the men’s triple jump event, jumping 14.99m.
The Trojans will continue to travel to Penna in Philadelphia, where they will compete Apr. 23-25 at the Penn Relays.
