In 2019, cable television was introduced to a new daytime talk show with a beloved celebrity as its host: Kelly Clarkson.

“The Kelly Clarkson Show” premiered on NBC on Sep. 9, 2019. Since then, there have been seven seasons laden with celebrity guests and musical covers from the star herself.

However, rumors have been swirling that the show might be cancelled before its next season, which was slated to start in Aug. 2026.

Even with those rumors surfacing, students enjoy watching her show in clips on TikTok.

“I liked that she brought on authors to talk about new books or movie news and things like that,” said Jordan Plan, a freshman elementary education major from Hayden, Alabama, when she was told the about the rumors. “I am sad that we possibly won’t get to see that anymore.”

Over the years, Clarkson has interviewed numerous celebrity guests on the show, just a few being Anne Hathaway, Terry Crews and Olivia Rodrigo. She also does a segment called “Kelly-oke,” where she opens the show by covering a popular song.

There are many reasons that the show might be cancelled. One big reason is the fact that daytime television is phasing out, and this is because of the rise of streaming. Cable television is steadily declining in rates. According to Pew Research as of July 2025, 55% of adults in the United States have switched to only streaming.

“I don’t have cable, but I use some streaming services,” said Emma Mitchell, a senior psychology major from Birmingham, Alabama. “My parents also stream.

“I also don’t typically watch [cable] TV unless I watch it with friends maybe one or two times a week.

“I honestly prefer streaming to cable,” said Phillip Butts, a junior psychology major from Sylacauga, Alabama. “I use Netflix, YouTube and HBOMax.”

According to an insider for Page Six, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” is a lot to put on for daytime television, considering dwindling numbers of households with cable, and it is no longer “sustainable.”

Another reason that the show is rumored to be cancelled is the fact that Clarkson has been focusing on herself and her family  the past year. Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, passed away Aug. 7, 2025. Since then, she has reportedly wanted to spend more time with her family.

Despite these rumors, NBC has not officially announced the show’s cancellation. According to a source for Entertainment Tonight, since Clarkson’s contract with NBC is up, the show will not continue after its seventh season. However, a representative for “The Kelly Clarkson Show” confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that there are no plans for the show to end.

The rumors seem to go back and forth on whether or not the show is actually being cancelled. Follow @kellyclarksonshow on Instagram to keep up with any news regarding the show’s cancellation.
