The Troy men’s tennis team traveled to Lafayette, Louisiana, on Saturday to battle the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. The result of the match was less than ideal as Troy lost 4-3.

There were some bright spots in the matchup, however, like Troy winning two of the three doubles matches. Troy only won two of the six singles matches, which became the deciding factor in the loss against Louisiana.

The entire matchup was tightly contested from start to finish. Five of the six singles matchups went into a tie breaking third set. Mario Martinez and Carles Anton claimed victory in their respected matches. Martinez won after a 7-6 final set victory, and Anton won 6-2 in his final set. The rest of the Trojans dropped their singles matches resulting in a 4-2 deficit against Louisiana. This deficit proved too much to overcome.

Troy did, however, claim the doubles point for the matchup. Noah Martens and Jules Fabre won their doubles matchup 6-3 to start the comeback push from Troy. Martinez and Vito Llinares won their matchup 6-4 keeping the comeback dream alive. Anton and Yeray Andres Pastor dropped their matchup to Louisiana 6-3 which would end the comeback effort.

The Sunday matchup against Southern Miss was postponed to a later date due to weather concerns. Troy fell to 13-4 on the year with a 1-2 conference record. The Trojans hit the court again this Saturday, April 1, against in-state rival South Alabama in an effort to get back on track.
