Students were invited out to the Trojan Center patio last Wednesday to take part in a fundraiser for an organization that wants to make a splashing impact.

Troy’s M.I.S.S. Elite Society’s “Splash A Sweet” event allowed students to dump different amounts of water on a member based on how much was paid. Small buckets were $3, mediums were $5 and the large ones were $7.

“We are just preparing for the upcoming semester so we can build our organization and also build more membership,” said M.I.S.S. Elite Society’s Vice President A’shirya Timmons, who is a nursing major from Pine Hill, Alabama. “I have never been splashed before, so I was actually looking forward to this event.

“One thing I want students to know is that this organization participates in a number of community services. If students want to get involved in the community in any type of way possible, then this is a club for you.”

To splash an executive member from the organization, an additional dollar to the chosen bucket size was added.

While the event focused on raising money for the organization’s financial needs and future events, it also served as a time for passing students to blow off steam as   the end of the semester approaches.

“Coming toward the end of the school year, it’s important for us to let everyone know that it’s okay for them to cool off and have a good time before final exams,” said M.I.S.S. Elite Society’s Event Coordinator Amari Bryant, who is a junior hospitality, tourism and event management major from Gadsden, Alabama. “We just got back from spring break not too long ago, so now we're just preparing ourselves for upcoming exams but having some fun beforehand.”

The ladies who got drenched with the cold water throughout the hot afternoon also promoted their organization to those interested in joining.

“This is one of my most active organizations that I'm active in, and I love the sisterhood,” said Abigail Shepherd, a sophomore elementary education major from Troy, Alabama. “It just feels like family here, and I love the opportunities for community service.

“I've made so many connections here, mostly in this organization, and it’s mentally a great way for you to meet people and make a lot of connections. It’s also a good way to get connected on campus and be involved.”

M.I.S.S. Elite Society’s next event will be a food drive. For more information, visit @misselitesociety on Instagram.
