Troy’s Student Government Association (SGA) and the Freshman Forum campus activity committee partnered up to put on a social event that included line dancing and fun soda drinks Monday night in the Trojan Center ballrooms. Freshman Forum was invited to help out with the event titled Footwork and Fizz.

“I was just helping out to make drinks and stuff, but I think it was a really good turnout,” said Freshman Forum Vice President Joshua Thompson, who is an exercise physiology major from Skipperville, Alabama. “Moving forward, I hope that we collaborate more so that we can put on more events like this one.

“Anywhere that we can help out with life on campus and making stuff fun, I hope to involve the Freshman Forum with other activities just to kind of get our feet in the water because we are freshmen after all. The organization is going to do its own things, but we also want to be at everything if we can.”

The drinks made throughout the night included cherry swirls (Coke mixed with vanilla and cherry), dreamsicles (Fanta mixed with sweet cream), dirty Dr Peppers (Dr Pepper mixed with coconut cream) and Shirley Temples (Sprite mixed with cherry). Students were also given the option to create their own fun drink.

“I got Dirty Dr Pepper, and it had an acquired taste for sure, because I would never have thought to mix the two together, but it's not bad,” said Jahzara Gadson, a freshman exercise physiology major from Minneapolis, Minnesota. “Me and my friends came here tonight because we love to line dance.

“We're like line dancing pros, so it's nice line dancing and then trying to meet new people at the same time since it just goes hand in hand. A lot of inclusivity is going on at these events, and everybody in there is having a good time while also being judgment free.”

Some of the line dancing songs that were played featured “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey, “Slow Wind” by S Dott, “Wobble” by V.I.C., “Flex” and “Cupid Shuffle” by Cupid, as well as “Boots on the Ground” by 803Fresh.

“It’s pretty cool because we kind of wanted to get a way for people to come and connect and kind of engage on campus while doing something fun,” said SGA’s Chair of Campus Activities Emma Claire Kirchharr, a sophomore financial economics major from Uriah, Alabama. “We also want to continue to get more people in connections so that there are different organizations with a variety of people that bring everyone together to get to know each other.”

Looking ahead, Freshman Forum and SGA plan to hold another event together for students to have another good time. For more information on the organizations’ next events, visit @troysga and @troyfreshmanforum on Instagram.
