The Troy Trojans outdoor track and field team started the spring season in style at the Tiger Track Classic last weekend in Auburn, Alabama.

Several Trojans saw gold during the two-day event. In the 1500m event, the men’s team came to conquer.

Freshman Alexander Bendig left it late as he had a strong finish to the event, which saw him as the victor. In doing so, Bendig overtook teammate and junior Chance Armstrong, who finished second behind Bendig.

Junior Cole Stewart came out on top in the men’s javelin throw, with his throw landing at 56.35m. Stewart’s throw was five meters more than any other throw at the event.

Another bright spot in the javelin throw was Jackson Le Bleu. Le Blue finished fourth in the event with a throw of 47.16m.

In the women’s 4x100m relay, the Trojans were victorious as a group. Troy was led by freshman Shanyah Washington, Kierra Montgomery, senior Maya Kelly, and sophomore Naveyh Frost in the final stage against Talladega and West Alabama.

Troy overcame its opponents by about a second as it finished with a time of 46.20.

The women’s 100m and 200m dashes featured Frost and Washington, and they did not disappoint. Both runners finished in the top 10 in each event.

Senior Tanner Guest was victorious in the women’s 800m dash, gaining an edge in the first heat by 0.07 seconds. Alexandria Rankin, junior Kasia Cooper, and junior Vanessa Frank also impressed with top-10 finishes.

The Trojans will next compete in the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, South Carolina, from March 24-25.
