Soccer prevails over baseball, any day

You hear that? Exactly. Nonsense, which is basically what baseball is.
Baseball is boring and confusing. Now, don’t get me wrong; it has its perks here and there, but overall, it’s nothing compared to a fast paced, hyped, physical and active sport.
Soccer is exactly that.
When it comes to soccer, you are guaranteed some type of action at least every five minutes. With baseball, you’re lucky to be done with the first inning by the time you come back from the concession stands.
When aggressive steals happen in soccer, the team and crowd share that raging momentum. When a foul is called, it’s hard to miss the emotions going through the fans and coaches. When a goal is successfully made, everyone is yelling and standing up. What does baseball do?
Players in the dugout just lean somewhere when their teammates are out on the field, only paying attention if they actually have a chance. Of course, the crowd gets wild for the big moments, but that’s only if they’re awake when the time finally comes.
Clearly, a faster paced sport will grab more people’s attention, hence making soccer more entertaining than baseball. This is definitely the case when it comes to regional popularity.
According to Topend Sports’ June 2025 study in “The Most Popular Sports in the World by Fans” article, soccer has an estimate of 3.5 billion fans from Europe, Africa, Asia and America. On the other hand, baseball only has an estimate of 500 million fans from America and Japan. In comparison, that is a major difference even with America being included in both of them.
I give credit to those who can sit through baseball games and actually enjoy it because I would much rather use my time watching something that actually has something going on-- cough, cough soccer Evidently, 3.5 billion others agree with me.
While that is just from my personal perspective, soccer objectively holds more cultural history than baseball. This is more than likely why the fan base and viewership are so high.
According to WorldAtlas’ February 2025 “The Most Popular Sports in the World” article, ball games using feet started back in 3,000 BC and continued throughout the years with references from multiple continents and countries, adding to the main reason for the rise of soccer with its ease of play.
Talk about taking it back to the ancestors.
Players only need a ball and can play with friends anywhere with understandable rules when it comes to soccer. Whereas with baseball, there’s so many technicalities that by the time you figure it all out, who’s trying to play it anymore? As a matter of fact, who’s trying to watch it anymore?
Likewise, in a sense, baseball has a major community. From Little League Baseball to club teams, many people of all ages can find a way to contribute to this sport and enjoy it. Even back when the Los Angeles Dodgers took on the Boston Red Sox in the 2018 World Series Game 3, over 53,114 fans stayed for the entire 18 innings (seven hours and 20 minutes) according to Baseball-Reference.
Now, that’s a community I can’t argue against.
Lastly, just to make my point even clearer for the ones in the back, a handful of people in today's time do not have the attention span for nine innings (looking at a full two hours here at least) as opposed to a 90 minute game. Look at the perspectives from more recent major events in these sports.
According to The New York Times, the most recent World Cup (2022) tournament had a total of 5.6 billion viewers watch at least one minute of the action on linear TV or streaming. The New York Times also reported that the 2025 World Series had 15.71 million viewers in the United States to watch across all online platforms.
I can guarantee these baseball viewers did not stay in front of their screens the whole time.
Whereas with the World Cup, people can stick around for a fast game. Maybe if baseball wasn’t such a long, boring game, it would have more viewers, fans and be ranked higher on the list of popular sports.
Overall, I’m trying to be entertained and have a good time when I go to a game, not be rocked asleep with boredom and outdated country music. In the end, soccer has my attention while baseball has my support from afar.
