Troy’s Student Government Association (SGA) is welcoming new executive officers for the 2026 – 2027 year following their executive election last week.

The election brought on five new executive officers, including SGA’s 100th President Christopher Hood, a junior exercise physiology major from Helena, Alabama. Hood ran on a platform of “GOOD” leadership, with each letter representing a principle of which Hood plans to lead with – Genuine, Objective, Ownership and Developmental.

“I want the student body to know that I am committed to serving because of my deep love for this organization,” Hood said. “When I arrived as a freshman, I was confused and seeking guidance.

“I found exactly what I was looking for in the SGA, and now that I am President, I hope to provide same guidance and developmental leadership to others.”

Hood’s current plans for his presidency involve sending out a survey to students to learn what their biggest obstacles for success are at Troy.

“I cannot help the student body unless I understand the biggest problems they are facing,” Hood said. “I also want to start a formal mentorship program within SGA.

“That way we can raise up our new members because they are our future.”

Elected as executive vice president (EVP) is William Morgan, a junior biomedical sciences major from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Morgan’s hope is to accomplish and lead a Senate that truly serves the student body through legislation and events held by SGA.

His first move as EVP is will be to appoint committees in the Senate and to meet with senators and officers to prepare for IMPACT this summer.

“I feel nothing but immense responsibility and humility,” Morgan said. “Responsibility for the position and what it entails, the ability it has to make change and the humility that the student body chose to elect me as their next EVP.”

Elected as vice president of internal affairs is Kristen Lambert and elected as vice president of campus affairs is Jamarion Willie-Hughes.

“I don’t want to spoil anything yet but one of my biggest goals is to continue strengthening the connection between students and the events and traditions that make Troy special,” Willie-Hughes said.“I want to help create more opportunities for organizations and students to get involved, whether that is through campus traditions, athletics, UAC events or new ideas that come directly from the student body.

“I really want students to feel like they have a voice in the experiences we create on campus and that they have the power to shape those moments. Expect some fun events though for sure.”

Willie-Hughes said his inspiration to run came from his experience serving as chairman of the Spirit and Traditions Committee.

“I just want students to know that this role is about them,” Willie-Hughes said. “My goal is to make sure students feel heard and have opportunities to get involved and enjoy their time at Troy.

“I believe campus life is shaped by the choices students make to show up, participate and support one another, and I want to continue creating spaces where that can happen.”

Caden Walker, a sophomore broadcast journalism major from Prattville, Alabama, has been elected as executive secretary. He plans on following alongside Hood’s goals of connecting with the student body.

“What's going through my mind is all the great things that it's going to allow me to do for the student body as well as the great way that I can lead the Student Government Association on the Executive Council,” Walker said. “I also think that I feel excited as well that I get to step into this role and help be a voice for Trojans.”

Across the new executives, they all shared the same closing thoughts – every student is invited to reach out to the organization with any questions or concerns.

Additionally, Hood will be looking to interview candidates for his cabinet soon. Interested students can reach out to him at chood218337@troy.edu
