Troy’s Student Government Association (SGA) has announced a partnership with Troy Public Library for the month of September. As a part of the partnership, students can visit the library and get a library card free of charge during the month of September.

SGA President Caleb Smith said Troy Public Library reached out to the organization late last month asking them to spread the news of this month’s library card sign-up month event to Troy students.

“We happily agreed, and my Presidential Cabinet’s City Relations Committee stepped in to help advertise this amazing event to all Trojans,” Smith said.

Regularly, a library card costs Troy University students and full-time employees working in Pike County $10 per year. For those who are not students, workers or live outside of Pike County, the card costs $20 per year. A library card is free for Pike County residents.

Students can stop by the Troy Public Library during regular business hours with their student IDs to receive a free library card. Availability ends on Sept. 30. According to the Troy Public Library website, to get a card, students are required to furnish identification that shows a current living address and one form of picture ID. P.O. Boxes are NOT acceptable.

“We were very excited when this partnership came to fruition,” Smith said. “It allows for SGA to create opportunities for students not only on our campus, but around the Troy community as well.”

SGA Executive Vice President Jayden McQueen said students should take up this opportunity to go beyond the perimeter of Troy University and take full advantage of the resources available in the community.

“I, for one, will take up this opportunity as sometimes I need access to a printer, I want a change of scenery and the public library in my own hometown was always nostalgic,” McQueen said.

Smith encouraged everyone not to miss out on the unique opportunity.

“A Troy Public Library card can give you access to a lot of different resources during your time as a Troy student, so utilize this free promotion while it is going on in the month of September,” Smith said.

More information on how to receive a library card can be found on the Troy Public Library website, troycitylibrary.org.
