At the beginning of this semester, Troy University’s Student Government Association launched a new social media show in which students can learn all about the different resources offered to them across campus.

The show is called “Pop In with the President,” and it features SGA President Caleb Smith, a senior risk management and insurance major from Gadsden, Alabama, visiting different offices and facilities on campus and asking them to explain the services they offer.

“My goal with ‘Pop In with the President’ is to showcase all that Troy offers and show students that there are so many resources available to them at little-to-no cost,” Smith said. “From free printing to tutoring to confidential mental health counseling, our university offers so much to us, and I want to make sure that our student body knows about everything.”

So far, there are two episodes of the show, the first of which was released in early September, but the idea was in the works long before.

“This year, my team and I created the @TROYSGAPresident Instagram page, which highlights my office and my Presidential Cabinet, so I had a new outlet to expand upon,” Smith said. “As I started thinking, I realized how many student resources there were at Troy, and how many of them might not be well-known to students.”

The show is done almost entirely by Smith, barring the person holding the camera and the faculty he is speaking to.

“It is a very simple process,” Smith said. “I typically reach out to the staff member in charge of the specific office or department that I am seeking to highlight.

“If they agree to an interview, I set up a 10-to-15-minute time frame to film the segment and ask questions about the resource. Then, I edit the video and post to Instagram periodically throughout the semester.”

The first edition highlights the Center for Student Success in Eldridge Hall, and the second edition highlights the campus library in Wallace Hall. Each episode delves deeper into every service the facilities provide the students and heavily encourages them to take advantage of the resources.

“SGA has always been about serving the student body, always working hard to promote different things throughout the year that bring students together, and I think this is a great way to reach students in a new way and show them what all TROY has to offer.”

The show isn’t on any kind of weekly schedule, but it will continue to be posted throughout the entire semester. Those interested in tuning into the show can find it on the SGA President’s page @TROYSGAPresident.
