SGA holds housing town hall

Troy’s Student Government Association (SGA) held a housing town hall in the Trojan Center lounge this past Thursday. 

Students and senators from the east and west housing districts met with Assistant Director of Housing Sabrina Foster to discuss problems residents deal with. 

“One thing we discussed was the possibility of a dorm being built exclusively for upperclassmen,” Foster said. “If another dorm is built,administration will let housing know who will be available to live in it.  

“We also talked about how to become an RA. I explained that the application for the Fall 2026 academic year will go out in March, but students need a 2.5 semester/overall GPA, have lived on campus for two semesters and 

have no prior disciplinary issues.” 

McKinley Watford, a senator for the west housing district, addressed one of the most common problems that residents run into.  

“We talked about roommate problems and how they are consistently an issue,” Watford said. “Sometimes people room with friends from high school that they didn’t anticipate problems with. 

“One of the things we want to stress is to make sure you pick your roommates wisely. Consider those things and plan accordingly.” 

Tremayne Chapmain is a senator for the east housing district. He lives in Newman 100 and has had a hole in his floor for months.  

“My friends keep joking that I’m going to fall through the floor,” Chapmain said. “It’s only getting bigger. 

“Ms. Foster told me to put in a work order. She told me maintenance would get back to me within a month.  

My order will take longer because they will have to pull the carpet back and fix the flooring.” 

Watford said students can expect more housing town halls in the future and urged residents to express their thoughts and concerns.  

“You cannot meet an expectation that is not expressed,” Watford said. “If you’re able to communicate what people are having problems with, we can take that to housing to make them aware of the issue so that they can solve it instead of people just complaining about it and nothing being done.”
