The kids of Troy University’s faculty and staff gathered in Janice Hawkins Park last Thursday for a fun day of celebrating Easter.

This Easter egg hunt is put on by SGA every year providing Troy’s faculty and staff an opportunity to bring their kids out for a day of fun and celebration.

“It's a really fun time to bring the community together,” said Bella Brothers, a junior elementary education major from Prattville, Alabama.

Brothers is the chairwoman of spirit and traditions on the SGA committee and represents the College of Education for Troy University’s Senate.

“It's a good way to mix and mingle with our professors on not such an in-classroom moment, but more of like a personal moment,” Brothers said.

“It's been a tradition here just to allow them to be recognized and have a way to give back to our faculty and staff and what they pour into us.”

Faculty and staff brought their kids out to enjoy a fun day of face painting, balloon animals, candy-filled Easter eggs and a fun Easter bunny to interact with.

“It's a very relaxed vibe with good energy and good times,” Brothers said. “I love getting to interact with the kids and my professors.

“Rather than just, ‘hey you’re my professor, I see you in class,’ you get to know them more on a personal basis, and they’re actually a person outside of the classroom.”

Brothers expressed her love for the holiday and what it means to her.

“To me,  Easter is actually my favorite holiday, the most important and the one that really gave me the life that I have,” she said.

“I grew up going to church, so I know the Lord and what He’s done for me.

“I remember that again on Easter but also tying in a fun way for the community is just a really dinator of state affairs in enrollment management, is a Troy graduate herself.

For Broadnax, it’s tradition for her family to attend the annual Easter egg hunt, this being their third time.

“It's been so fun,” Broadnax said. “I always enjoy it, and it’s always good to come out here and let the kids run around, find Easter eggs, interact with the other kids and have fun.

“It's very friendly, and it’s always a good time and a good event especially when SGA puts it on.”

Dr. Eva Kane, associate professor and a coordinator in the Department of Education brought her kids to the event on Thursday.

“We come every year, and they love it,” Kane said. “They like coming here because of the free candy, and who doesn’t love that?”

Kane shared one of her favorite parts about coming to this event every year.

“I usually get to see some of my students, and you can see how much they grow,” Kane said.

“You can see how much they’re working, getting experience, and they’re trying to put themselves out there in the community just like they’ll be when they’re in the classroom.”

Kane emphasized how events such as this are great for Troy's community and having fellowship with one another.

“It builds community, especially with the university,” she said.

“Not only do the faculty and staff show up, but people in the community show up, and they get involved and find camaraderie within the university when we’re doing things like this for everyone.”
