On starting a new chapter

Hello! My name is Brittany Wyatt. For those who don’t know, I have written the book reviews in the “Brittany’s Book Corner” column of Trojan Living for the past two academic years. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to express my opinions in such a forum — it has been an experience unlike any other in my collegiate career.
Since my thoughts have been tolerated for so long, I think it’s only fair to allow readers to see the person behind the page.
I am a senior English major with a creative writing minor, and my greatest passion since childhood has been literature — a surprise, I know. I aspire to be a writer, myself, of both prose and poetry. I love to write realistic fiction based on my own life. At the same time, I am an ardent lover of libraries and what they stand for in a community.
I have enrolled in the University of Alabama to pursue a master’s degree in library and information studies with a concentration in public libraries, starting this Fall semester. I hope to be a young adult librarian after graduation.
My favorite book is John Gardner’s “Grendel,” but my favorite series is by far Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games.” My least favorite book is “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck, which I know is controversial by the reception of my review on it. But that’s one of the aspects of literature that I love — no matter the reaction, the feelings evoked are raw.
As the sun sets on my time here, I want to thank the Trojan Living editor, Neela Cole, our editor-in-chief, Emily Mosier, and our faculty adviser, Professor Cooper, for always being patient and accepting of everything I submit. I know that some of my choices for review are interesting, to say the least.
To everyone else involved in The Tropolitan — thank you for all of your hard work to make our newspaper the proud communal effort that it is. It has been the experience of a lifetime, and I wouldn’t have traded my time here for the world.
