After spearheading Troy’s special teams unit since his sophomore season in 2023, kicker Scott Taylor Renfroe has been named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy, which couples on-field performance and academic success.

Renfroe is one of 78 finalists from the FBS subdivision of NCAA Football, and one of 177 semifinalists across the nation. Finalists will be announced on Oct. 22, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship.

Renfroe is a Troy Trojan through and through. Being from the area, Renfroe was a high school talent, even leading Pike Liberal Arts High School to the 3A championship during his high school career.

Renfroe was ranked as the No. 31 kicker in the nation by ESPN, a top-75 player from Alabama and hailed as a three-star recruit. After his high school career was over, Renfroe decided to commit to Troy University and become a Trojan.

During the 2021 season, Renfroe did not see any field action as he was redshirted. However, the next season he would make his collegiate debut against Ole Miss. In his redshirt freshman season, he kicked off nine times and averaged 59.9 per kick average.

Renfroe  was a part of the back-to-back Sun Belt Conference Championship teams and led the charge in the second of those. In his sophomore year, he made 19 field goals, which ranked second most in Troy history and ninth in Sun Belt history.

Last season, Renfroe drilled a career-high 50-yard kick against Southern Miss, went 11-for-13 on field goals and only missed two extra-point kicks.

Renfroe is no stranger to the limelight. He is one of the best kickers to ever wear the Power T, connecting on 82.1% of his field goal attempts – good for third all time for Troy.

He also ranks sixth in school history with 32 field goals made, and hasn’t had a single field goal attempt blocked. Renfroe’s four field goals in one game against Army in 2023 tied the school record for most field goals in a game.

Renfroe is not the first Trojan to be nominated as a finalist for the Campbell Trophy. Austin Stidham was nominated as a finalist in 2022. Renfroe looks to continue his storied career against South Alabama on Oct. 4, as Troy takes on the Jaguars in the Battle for the Belt.
