Rubicon submissions closing this January

Time is running out for students interested in getting their artistic work published in the Rubicon, Troy’s student-operated and assembled literary journal, as the Jan. 31 deadline approaches.

The club has been successfully operating at Troy University since 2009 and publishes

work by students ranging from poems, short stories, art and photography every Spring.

“For me personally, I really enjoy seeing the creative side of students through the

journal,” said Dr. Ben Robinson, professor of English and advisor for the Rubicon. “We

professors often get so caught up in our daily tasks of teaching classes and other responsibilities that it’s easy for us to forget just how imaginative many of our students really are.”

This organization was first put together with the students in mind, and the founders

wanted to offer them the opportunity to experience publication before graduation.

For those editing the journal, they are exposed to the process of editing and assembling a

book that will later be available to the public. Creators who share their pieces use the Rubicon as a way of showcasing their work.

“[The Rubicon] is a way to give students a creative voice, a creative outlet,” said Ileana Lampon, the journal’s editor and a senior graphic design and English major from Enterprise, Alabama. “That is the goal we continue to maintain today – a creative outlet for Troy students.

“I love the people I have met in the Rubicon. I have had a lot of fun in the club.

“I also always enjoy the process of editing and formatting each edition I have worked on.”

The journal is completely free for students who may want to be a part of this upcoming edition, whether they are interested in the editing process or would like to submit their own work to be included.

The Rubicon is also accepting written pieces in languages other than English, as well as short stories.

To submit a piece for the Rubicon, you must be a Troy University student – online or

in-person – and submissions must be sent in by Jan. 31. Those interested in submitting their work can do so by scanning the QR code found at the Rubicon’s official Instagram page @troyrubicon, and for more information contact the team via
