The show will go on for Troy’s Department of Theatre and Dance as the spring semester takes center stage.
The department’s upcoming productions include "Something Rotten!,” “God of Carnage” and “Art In Motion: An Exhibit of Soul.” Further throughout the semester, spring auditions will take place.
“I think that the audience can expect a range of styles from our upcoming shows,” said Dancer and Costume Shop Assistant Kelsie Williams, who is a senior dance major from Montgomery, Alabama. “The variety and storytelling is definitely something people can look for, and it’s student produced, so everything comes straight from the dancers.”
“When it comes to auditioning, just be yourself. I know it’s cliche, but authenticity is what attracts people to your character. Be in the room because you want to be, not because someone told you to.”
Focusing on the different productions, the department, as well as the students involved, wants the audience to experience fun, diversity, and a few surprises of what’s in store.
“The department does an amazing job of showcasing productions for any and everyone to enjoy,” said “Art In Motion: An Exhibit of Soul” Director Mikiya Smith, who is a junior dance major from North Little Rock, Arkansas. “My favorite part about stepping into this role for the first time is being on the production side of it and figuring out what brings a show to life.
“Everyone can expect to see talented performers and the beautiful work of so many dedicated artists.”
While preparations are already in place through daily rehearsals and choreographers collaborating with different mediums of art, inspiring a variety of extraordinary concepts, the department is very excited about what’s to come.
“I am especially looking forward to the student-run productions as it showcases the creativity, community, passion and strong work ethic that embodies our department,” said Dance Office Assistant Jasmin Aranda, a senior dance major from North Little Rock,
Arkansas. “My advice for those who are planning to audition would be to breathe and trust yourself.
“You’ve already accomplished the hardest part, which is showing up.”
