The Troy University Office of Career Services will be conducting Workshop Wednesdays every Wednesday from Jan. 21 to April 22.

Workshop Wednesdays will be held from 2-3 p.m. in room 124 in Eldridge Hall. The Office of Career Services said they are not only excited to hold workshops that will prepare students for their future careers, but they are also happy to help every day of the week.

“This department is here to help students reach their career goals and help them to take their first step into their career by helping them to find internships, jobs, helping with resumes, cover letters, mock interviews, arranging career fairs for them and just to encourage them to come here and take all the help they need,” said Vrund Shah, the Career Services  graduate administration assistant and computer science master's student from Anand, India.

The workshops will serve as a dedicated time for multiple students to come in and take advantage of specific resources that Career Services offers daily. There will be workshops on how to create a resume, interview for a job, attend a career fair, network, make a LinkedIn profile, land an internship, prepare for graduate school and even help students choose a major.

“I think students need as much exposure as to what it takes to get a job,” said Director of the Pathfinder Program and and Program Advisor in Career Services Jennifer Holbert.

“I think there's an assumption that if you get a degree, you get a job, but we're not really in that world anymore.

“There's a lot of work it takes to get there, and so workshops, I think, will be eye-opening.”

The Office of Career Services will also hold multiple events and career fairs throughout the semester. There will be career fairs for computer science, technology, business, education, health science, communication and journalism majors.

There will also be a major exploration fair for undecided students on March 2 from 12-2 p.m. in the TC Ballrooms. It will count as an Atlas event for students in Troy 1101, alongside the Workshop Wednesdays.

Director of Career Services Arminda McKee encouraged students to take advantage of the office's resources early on and not wait until their senior year.

“We want them to progressively work on building different skills and getting those tools in order to prepare for the transition from college to career,” McKee said. “So, whether it be taking baby steps into networking, maybe attending a career event just to see what it's like, or realizing what they actually need to put on their resumes early on, we just want to give them the tools that they need to be successful and to be marketable until they get ready to graduate.”

Those interested in attending a Workshop Wednesday should check their Troy email for dates or stop by Career Services in Eldridge 124. Additionally, those interested in attending a career fair should check their Troy email for dates and sign up through Handshake.
