Men’s basketball tops North Alabama

Dylan Hurst Troy sailed to a 77-58 home victory over North Alabama on Saturday morning. The Trojans shot a season-high 52.6 percent (30-of-57) from the floor for the win. The Trojans also hit another season-high mark during the game. The Lions were held to only 32.2 percent (19-of-59) from the field. This is not only the lowest total field goals made by an opponent this season, but also the lowest percentage of field goals made by an opponent this season. Four Trojan players scored double-digit points in the game, led by senior Jordon Varnado. He finished with his second consecutive 20-point game and his fourth of the season. He also recorded six boards, five assists, two blocks and a steal. Fellow senior B.J. Miller scored 18 points, a career high. He also went perfect for field goals, scoring 100 percent (3-of-3), which was another career high. He finished the game with four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior Alex Hicks and sophomore Darian Adams rounded out Troy’s double-digit scorers with Hicks accounting for 13 and Adams shooting for 11. The 11 points scored by Adams marked a career high. The Trojans went into halftime with a narrow 35-28 lead after the Lions were allowed only 29.4 percent (10-of-34) from the field. Troy’s offense came alive in the second half and held at least a 10-point lead from the last 15 minutes of the game. The Trojans will finish their home stretch on Thursday, Nov. 29, when they host Austin Peay at 7:15 p.m. in Trojan Arena.
