Medal of Honor recipient Bennie Adkins dies from COVID-19

Troy University alumnus and Medal of Honor recipient Sergeant Major Bennie Adkins died from COVID-19 related respiratory failure. He was 86. The Bennie Adkins foundation announced on March 26 that Adkins had been hospitalized after he became critically ill with COVID-19 respiratory failure. A Vietnam War veteran, Adkins was a native of Opelika, Alabama earned his Bachelor's degree from then-Troy State University, Montgomery in  1979 and subsequently earned two Master's degrees from Troy. He was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama in 2014. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available
