Two sisters are turning their shared love of fashion into a business while balancing college, busy schedules and other major life events.

Mary and Madison May, the founders of Made by May, started the boutique to share their love of shopping and finding unique clothing pieces. The sisters said they wanted to build something of their own while working together on a project they both enjoy.

“We thought it would be so special to build something of our own, especially since we get to do it together,” the May sisters said.

Their faith played an important role in their business journey. The May sisters said they want to continue trusting the Lord as they develop the boutique and see what the future holds.

Although the business began as an idea, the sisters said watching it become a reality has been one of their proudest accomplishments. From choosing a name and developing the brand to attending markets and preparing their website, each step has helped bring their vision to life.

Working together allowed the sisters to use their different personalities and strengths. Mary brings excitement and personality to the business, while Madison contributes ideas and attention to detail.

The sisters said their close relationship helps them share ideas, communicate honestly and work through disagreements. As best friends, they enjoy building something that belongs to both of them.

However, starting a business required them to learn how to manage several responsibilities at once. Both sisters are in college, and their schedules also include nursing school and wedding planning.

They said running a boutique involves more work than people may realize, including researching vendors, selecting products, managing finances and developing the website. Finding time for each responsibility has been one of their biggest challenges.

Despite those demands, the sisters said they are learning as they go and remain grateful for the opportunity to grow together.

Their advice to other college students who want to start a business is to take the first step instead of waiting for the perfect time.

“You don’t have to wait for the perfect time to start something you are excited about,” the sisters said.

Through Made by May, the founders hope to create more than a place to shop. They want women to find clothing they love, feel confident in what they wear and feel connected to something meaningful.

The boutique’s tagline, “Made for every moment,” reflects the sisters' goal of offering pieces for different seasons of life.

Their company verse, Proverbs 31:25, reads, “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” The sisters said the verse reminds them of the confidence and strength they hope to encourage in women.

As they continue developing Made by May, the sisters hope their story inspires others to pursue their goals even when they do not have every detail figured out.

For them, building the boutique is about more than selling clothes. It is also about strengthening relationships, sharing their faith and creating something together that reflects what matters most to them.
