As the end of the regular season approaches, every conference game matters that much more. Currently, the Troy softball team sits at 29-21 and 8-10 in conference play. Their record reflects their most recent 2-1 series victory over the Texas State Bobcats.

Over the course of three games, the Trojans scored 13 runs on 23 hits. Four hits, three runs and three RBIs came off the bat of Makaley Boswell. In the process, the sophomore moved into second place on the team in multi-hit games this season with 14.

In game one of the series, she went yard for the second straight game, dating back to the team’s 9-8 loss at the hands of UAB. Although Boswell didn’t record a hit in game two of the series, she recorded a win in route to helping the Trojans even the series.

“It was a great bounce-back win for us today,” said head coach Eric Newell. “It was a gritty performance after a tough loss yesterday, and I’m really happy for the girls.

“They showed a lot of heart and grit.”

Game three saw the women in cardinal clinch the series and No. 18 played a huge role in the team’s success. The Geneva, Alabama, native went 3-for-4 with two RBIs – her third three-hit game of the season. Her double in the seventh inning drovein the go-ahead run.

“It was a big time series victory – our team has had so many close losses in conference play this year and to come on the road at Texas State and clinch the series in a one-run game is clutch,” said Newell.

The series win marks the first time ever Troy has won a series in San Marcos, Texas.

Boswell has been consistent for the Trojans this year, hitting .333 with a 1.038 OPS. She’s also a threat once she gets on base, as she’s been successful on 11 of her 12 stolen base attempts.

The Trojans are closing in on their final six regular season games. Boswell looks to aid in the hunt for a conference championship, as the Trojans take on the Georgia State Panthers in a three-game series  at the Bob Heck Sports Complex starting Friday, Apr. 25. Following that series, the Troy Trojans will return to the Troy Softball Complex to close the regular season against the South Alabama Jaguars. That series is set to begin Thursday, May 1.
